Thirst After God

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1-2)

”My soul yearns for You in the night; My spirit within me diligently seeks You.” (Isaiah 26:9)

”Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him.” (Psalm 24:8-10)

We need God. We can’t stand without Him. Our perspective can get skewed every day, and especially if you have other variables in the wake like lack of sleep, tiredness, sickness or heavy trial. Everyday God rights that perspective when we go to Him. He talks to us and comforts us in His Word. We gain strength and wisdom. You tell Him all your troubles and then thank Him for His presence. It is a conversation, a relationship of a loving God delighting in His child.

You may say that ‘I am not worthy, not like I should be’, but don’t look at what your emotions say. Emotions are the worst indicator of reality. Stand on what is true and what can’t change: His Word, His promises and His character. He says He loves you. Believe it.
“I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:23)
How much does God the Father love His Son? He loves you like He does Christ. Believe it. He says He delights in you, accept it. He says you are holy through the blood of Christ. Rejoice! Don’t argue, just accept gladly.

So, when you feel your perspective skewing and say to yourself, “I am not worthy,” or “I am on the outside,” or “I can’t access the good everyone else has,” or “Things are hopeless,” you have started believing lies. Instead, go back to what you do know to be true and stand there. You are right where you should be in Christ because He is your all, everything you need.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” (2 Peter 1:2, 3)

Run to Him, tell Him everything. Let His Word wash over you and lift your heart and mind up. Don’t resist. Accept that he loves you.

I have always deeply appreciated the emphasis on grace that our pastor, Doug Wilson, puts in His sermons Sunday after Sunday. He says, “Do you feel unworthy? Come to the Table, and eat. Are you hurting? Come, eat and drink deeply.”
